SAJFP’s commemoration of Tu BiShvat in the Nakba Memorial Forest at Constitutional Hill focussed on the crime of ecocide – the destruction of the environment – most markedly in Gaza but also in other Palestinian territories. The main speaker, David Fig, an environmental sociologist, described the way Israel’s image as an environmental and technological pioneer is belied by its policies of land and resource theft – and most strikingly by its utter decimation of Gaza.
